Friends for Mental Health – Youth Program
Name of Organization – Program or Service: Friends for Mental Health – Youth Program
Program or Service Description: These activities are designed to meet the needs of young people aged 7 to 17 who are close to a person suffering from mental health issues (father, mother, siblings, friends, others).

Anna Workshop – A 4-day summer educational camp is offered to bring together young people aged 7 to 12 who are experiencing similar situations with one or more parents suffering from mental illness.

Throughout interactive and creative activities, the camp helps children better understand their loved one’s mental illness. By promoting mutual support and self-care as well as sharing information about differents aspects of mental health issues, the camp help youth to be more adequately equipped to strive through the challenges they face in this particular context of their lives.

Young Friends (6 – 17 years old) – Current statistics tell us approximately of Canadian children have a parent or a sibling with mental illness.

Often, these children experience difficulties such as : an increased risk of developing mental health issues themselves or difficulty regulating and expressing emotions. It can also hinder academic performance and create social isolation.

Our intervention program for youth aims to support children in their development of appropriate emotional expression and coping tools, strengthen their self-esteem and build positive relationships with others. It also fosters a better understanding of their loved one’s mental illness.

The camp uses a psycho-educational approach to raise awareness through fun and artistic activities that supports expression and healthy management of difficult emotions.
