African Canadian Development and Prevention Network

Mission: To develop a network of organizations that can contribute to a thriving Black community by facilitating organizational capacity building, joint planning, resource development, promoting a healthy approach and best practice prevention models. Advocating for improved access to services for the Black community that are adapted both culturally and linguistically. Promoting and supporting the strengthening of Black families.

Programs and Services

Alliance for Community Adaptation (ACA)

Offer support and cultural expertise to workers as they intervene with families with whom they may have a hard time connecting. Working with Batshaw and social workers to develop short/medium/long term plans for families to get out of the system.

Network Partnership Initiative (NPI)

This program is designed to support Quebec’s minority English-speaking communities in improving and maintaining access to the full range of Health and Social Services.
Identifying opportunities for collaboration to increase access to health and social services for English speaking members of the Black community.
Advocacy efforts to inform and sensitize public institutions on the challenges facing the English-speaking Black community.

Outreach

Sunshine Seniors Club: Weekly club meetings that consist of sharing a meal and recreational activities. Invited guests come and share their expertise to promote healthy living.
#StillWeRise: A call to action for everyone: For communities of color, there is a sense of powerlessness in the face of discrimination. Racism is a societal ill that permeates all aspects of our lived experiences. #SWR is about empowerment and drawing strength from our history of resilience to create change. Combating systemic racism will take everyone interested in justice, fairness, and equity. We are asking members of the wider community to join us. Allyship requires reflection and a commitment to doing something today that will have a real impact tomorrow.
The Bright Beginnings (“BB”): The BB program stresses the importance of early education and is designed for parents and children aged 0-6 years. The activities are focused on developing important skills such as literacy motor school and encourages learning through play. The activities and events are designed to build relationships of trust, to provide families with pertinent information and to connect them with programs and services that are available to help support the educational success of their children. In allowing parents to create community links, bridging the gap between French service providers and the communities that they serve and empowering parents tools and resources, the goal is to support English-Speaking Black parents and their children as they navigate the Francophone Education system.
Community Health Educational Program: Information sessions held 4 times a year on pertinent health issues.
